*NEW AND IMPROVED ADDITION
When I first moved to Bloomington nearly 17 years ago I didn't branch out much. mostly staying within a few hundred yards of campus and as close as possible to the nearest food court. But as freshman year came and went and I was able to bring a vehicle to campus (R.I.P. 92 Honda Accord), curiosity got the best of me.
Being a lover of the outdoors, a frame of mind I attribute mostly to my brother, I began to seek outdoor attractions in and around Bloomington. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of the trails. 80 ft limestone bluffs. Check. Cascading falls. Check. Wetlands, flowing streams, wildflower prairies. Check, Check, and Check. Just when it seemed I'd tapped them all I'd stumble upon another gem, unknown to me the year earlier.
I can't write about hiking without also mentioning, Mac. He's my pup. Mac has been my hiking buddy for 10 years now. Also a lover of the outdoors and all things water, he's the best hiking buddy a guy could ask for.
With Mac in tow, I've hiked the area trails many times over and I wanted to share some of those choice spots with you. Consider this your Bloomington hiking hack. There is a diverse range of trails listed on this map. Short, long, rugged. All scenic and with their own nuances. Enjoy!
